Aaaargh Matey

Our cute Kaeson as we remember him is gone. He has been transformed into a Pirate.

This week we visited the Opthamologist again hoping for great news in the way of Kaesey's vision. Unfortunately, we got the opposite. It turns out that Kaeson's vision is much worse than we had thought.

He has been diagnosed with a lazy eye. We are very lucky that we caught it before his eye crossed. His good eye is also has very poor vision. In his one eye, his vision is about 20/300. That is pretty bad. Even with correction, the best that he sees is about 20/100. So, what do you do? You patch him!

Kaeson is now wearing a patch over his left eye. He has to wear the patch and his glasses at the same time. We are hoping that by doing this faithfully for a year or so, he will be able to gain strength in his weak eye and be able to see. By using the patch system, the lazy eye should correct itself. The doctor also suggested lasik to fix his other eye as soon as he is old enough for the proceedure.

So far, wearing the patch has not been that big of a problem. He doesn't have to wear it all day. Studies show that wearing it 6 hours a day is just as effective as 24 hours. However, when you take out school and nap time, 6 hours is pretty much the rest of the day.

So, when you see him, please make a big deal about him being a pirate and tell him how awesome he looks. He is very self conscious about what people think and we need all of the positive feedback that we can get.
